Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a motivated and skilled individual to join her team as a Paralegal in the Office of the Attorney General’s Energy and Ratepayer Advocacy Division (ERA).
Pursuant to G.L. c. 12, § 11E, ERA advocates on behalf of the customers of Massachusetts’ electric, gas, and water companies. ERA’s mission includes holding utilities accountable for providing just and reasonable rates; advocating for a smart, cost-effective and equitable clean energy transition; and protecting consumers from predatory energy companies.
Primary Duties:
A Paralegal assigned to the Energy & Ratepayer Advocacy Division provides administrative and paralegal support to the Division's legal and technical staff in all phases of litigating cases before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Cable, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and other judicial and administrative bodies.
Responsibilities may include reviewing and organizing paper and electronic documents and case files; preparing and filing legal documents with the courts and administrative regulatory bodies according to established procedures (including review of final documents for errors and omissions); tracking and organizing discovery responses; preparing case documents for hearings (e.g., preparing trial exhibits and notebooks); providing support to attorneys during evidentiary hearings; entering and maintaining case files in the case management system; storing electronic case documents for easy access and retrieval; legal and factual research and writing; cite checking briefs and other filings; tracking and reporting internally on active cases; systematically storing and archiving inactive and closed case files; providing general office assistance; assisting with special projects and other duties as required.
Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt.
Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.
Salary: $53,762

System Requirements
Position Requirements:
· Bachelor's Degree and paralegal or legal assistant experience preferred.
· In-depth understanding of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
· Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, and Summation preferred.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Ability to analyze and organize documents with attention to detail
· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
· Experience or interest in law, energy, and/or working in the public interest is also a plus.
