Job Opportunity: Staff Attorney at Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company (1-5 years of experience preferred)

Location: Jackson, MS

Role and Responsibilities: The Staff Attorney is an attorney with 1-5 years of experience at the beginning of a legal career. The entry level Staff Attorney provides legal research and interpretation for members of the Legal Department on legal related issues and matters that may involve Investments, Agency, Claims, Policy Service, Underwriting, general corporate matters, and all other areas of the Company as needed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist on matters that are subject to litigation
  • Assist on evaluating and summarizing claims, policy service and administrative matters
  • Provide assistance on matters to more senior attorneys on legal issues and handle special assignments and projects
  • Assist in assembling discovery requests and in preparing appropriate responses.
  • Prepare drafts of legal documents for review and finalizing
  • Perform legal research and evaluation of legal issues for all areas of the Company as needed
  • Assist on responding to various questions and concerns from the field force
  • Assist in evaluating and responding to underwriting issues and concerns
  • Assist on various legal aspects of real estate transactions, including those that involve bankruptcies, foreclosures and lawsuits when filed
  • Assist with issues involved in mortgage loan closings, servicing, workouts, defaults and other servicing problems

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably business or accounting related
  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • Membership in The Mississippi Bar, within 6 months after starting date
  • Strong analytical skills
