Purpose of Role:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Legal Accounting Clerk to join our growing law firm in Roseland, NJ. This is a fully in-person position supporting our finance and billing team with day-to-day accounting operations. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced professional environment.
Responsibilities
- Open new client matters and maintain accurate records in the firm’s accounting system.
- Process incoming payments (checks, ACH, wires, credit cards) and apply them correctly.
- Prepare daily deposits and maintain proper documentation.
- Assist with billing, including invoice preparation, edits, and distribution.
- Support accounts receivable efforts, including follow-ups on outstanding balances.
- Handle basic accounts payable tasks, including invoice entry and processing.
- Reconcile accounts and assist with month-end close activities.
- Work closely with attorneys and staff to resolve billing or payment questions.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and law firm accounting procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 1+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related experience.
- Law firm or professional services experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- High level of professionalism and discretion with sensitive information.
Compensation & Benefits: This position offers a salary range of $55,000 - $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. Support staff may also be eligible for discretionary year-end bonuses and a merit-based increase. The posted salary range reflects the base pay range for this position.
