IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for this position is a licensed Nevada attorney who is passionate about public service, highly skilled in criminal procedures, and committed to upholding the law with integrity and professionalism. They have courtroom experience, including conducting trials, preparing legal documents, and managing a heavy caseload independently. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, team-oriented, and adaptable, capable of managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision.

- Pay Considerations – The starting salary for this position is $120,000.00.
- Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, (36 hour work week) Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:00pm. The selected candidate will be required to participate in a mandatory rotating schedule to cover weekend court sessions. In addition conducting mandatory trainings at various times of the year. This includes working some Saturdays throughout the year based on an already established schedule by the department. Flexibility to respond to urgent court matters during weekends, holidays, and after-hours is an essential function of this position.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction, represents the City on all matters heard in, and appealed from, the North Las Vegas Municipal Court, and assists the Chief Deputy Attorney and other supervising attorneys in the Criminal Division.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This intermediate level class requires the application of seasoned judgment and independently providing technically proficient completion of assigned legal matters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent (undergraduate degree and LLB) from an accredited law school.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience as a Deputy City Attorney I -
Criminal for the City of North Las Vegas or three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney in a
prosecutorial agency or public prosecutor’s office.
Licenses and Certifications
- Certificate of admission to the State Bar of Nevada at time of application.
- License to practice law before the Federal District Court of Nevada within one (1) year of hire date.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Nevada state driver’s license and maintain a
satisfactory motor vehicle record. - Incumbents in positions that require possession of valid licensing/certification as a condition of
employment must obtain and maintain such credentials within the established time periods, and
throughout the course of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain required licenses or
certifications in good standing may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination

- Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
