If you enjoy working with team members whose defining characteristics are exceptional client service, initiative, professionalism, responsiveness, and adaptability, you may be the person we are seeking to join our UCC Compliance department in our Chicago or New York office, as a Paralegal.

 

Accounts for reviewing the content of all UCC financing statements prepared by MB and counsels to other parties to ensure compliance with Uniform Commercial Code Article 9 ("UCC") requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews UCC financing statements to confirm compliance pursuant to questions on a master review form which includes confirming the debtor and secured party, the accuracy of debtor’s name, the filing jurisdiction, the collateral description, and location of defined terms
  • Reviews for compliance with underlying documents, UCC Article 9, jurisdiction-specific requirements, as well as recommended practices of the Firm
  • Composes UCC reviews to show findings of the analysis and distributes them among attorneys and paralegals as required. Responds to all inquiries as needed
  • Communicates and coordinates with attorneys, paralegals, and other staff to monitor UCC financing statements throughout the filing process
  • Confirms that UCC financing statements that have been reviewed were duly filed and that acknowledgment copies and cautionary language have been sent to the client
  • Assists in maintaining UCC filing information in Firm database
  • Conducts Web research as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives
Qualifications

Education/Training/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, required
  • Paralegal Certificate, preferred
  • Training/understanding of Uniform Commercial Code Revised Article 9, preferred

 

Professional Experience: 

  • Minimum of one - two years of related experience, required
  • Previous transactional paralegal or other relevant UCC experience, preferred

 

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, required

 

Performance Traits: 

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner with all levels of the Firm and outside parties
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with shifting priorities
  • Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative
  • Ability to anticipate needs of lawyers and paralegals
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion
  • Exercise solid strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

 

Physical Requirements:

  • May require occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.

 

 

The typical pay scale for this position is between $63,000 and $83,000, although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate’s education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
