Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated real estate attorney to join our in-house legal team. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in real estate acquisitions, dispositions and development, with a strong background in drafting and negotiating a variety of real estate agreements, advising on due diligence, and mitigating legal risk. This role requires an independent, detail-oriented professional who is capable of managing complex transactions while effectively collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft, negotiate, and review a variety of real estate documents, including purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, and other related documents.
  • Review and advise on due diligence matters, including title and survey review.
  • Support all legal matters related to real estate transactions, property development, land use, leasing, and easements.
  • Provide practical, business-focused legal advice and partner with internal business teams to facilitate sound decision-making.
  • Assess, analyze, and mitigate legal risks associated with transactions and advise on risk management strategies.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities independently while ensuring deadlines and business objectives are met.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal business partners, including business unit leaders and AEP attorneys in various practice areas, as well as external counsel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Expertise in drafting and negotiating real estate agreements and performing due diligence, including title and survey review.
  • Strong understanding of development and land use matters.
  • Ability to work independently on sophisticated and complex transactions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior business leaders, outside counsel, and business partners.
  • Collaborative problem solver with a proactive and results-driven approach.
  • Experience advising on real estate matters within the energy, utility, or infrastructure sectors is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited US law school.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience in transactional real estate law, with a focus on real estate acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, and development.

Compensation:

  • Grade10: $132,562 - $172,333
  • Grade 11: $155,761 - $202,491
