Job Description

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, known as BCI, houses the state’s official crime lab and identification services serving all of Ohio, as well as the criminal justice community.  BCI also provides expert criminal investigative services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request.  With offices throughout the state, BCI stands ready to respond 24/7 to law enforcement agencies’ needs.

 

Staff at BCI work every day to provide the highest level of service. This includes special agents who are on call 24/7 to offer investigative assistance to law enforcement, knowledgeable scientists and forensic specialists using cutting-edge technology to process evidence to bring criminals to justice, and criminal intelligence analysts and identification specialists who help local law enforcement solve cases.  Experienced special agents, forensic scientists, and other law enforcement experts’ staff BCI’s three main divisions\: 1) Identifications 2) Investigations and 3) Laboratory.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking a public-minded individual for a Quality Assurance Specialist vacancy in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Section within the Identification Unit.  This position report to the office daily for the duration of the probationary period. Thereafter, the possibility of a hybrid in-office/remote schedule exists. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is London, OH.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

 

- Reviews and evaluates submissions by Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and Courts;

- Reviews eDisp reports submitted electronically to obtain missing information; 

- Schedules on-site reviews with Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and Courts and prepares findings reports; 

- Conducts compliance reviews for all LEAs and Courts three times a year; 

- Provides training to LEA’s and Courts when requested; 

- Attends/organizes countywide meetings of LEAs, Courts, judges and prosecutors to aid communication between county agencies and BCI; 

- Supports disposition project by reviewing policies with courts and collecting dispositions ready for processing by BCI; 

- Maintains updated contact information for LEAs and Courts in their files;

- Provides day-to-day communication and problem solving with LEAs and Courts; 

- Supports and audits civilian agencies using the WebCheck Systems; 

- Provides day-to-day communication and problem solving with WebCheck Agencies; 

- Schedules and conducts on-site audits of WebCheck agencies determined to need them; 

- Reviews compliance and adherence to policies and procedures recommended by BCI, AGO and FBI (e.g., analyzes operations, reviews quality control methods; recommends improvements; validates records); 

- Prepares audit report and develops methods and techniques to resolve a variety of auditing problems; 

- Reviews APEX reports to determine if agency is operating in accordance with state and federal statutes regarding background checks and notifies agencies of issues at time of audit; 

- Monitors previous audit reports and provisions of standard audit plans; 

- Conducts electronic audits on WebCheck agencies that have been determined to be submitting background checks in accordance with state and federal statutes; and 

- Provides monthly training for all new WebCheck agencies at vendor location and on-site retraining for agencies requesting it or are determined to need additional training.

Completion of undergraduate core program in accounting, finance, criminal justice or closely related field; valid Driver's License.


- OR 2 years’ experience in accounting, finance, criminal justice or closely related field; valid Driver's License.


- OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for employment noted above.

 

Preferred Qualifications

- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong computer application skills

Unusual Working Conditions Include:

- Travel may be required approximately 2-3 days/week.

- Overnight stays may be required.

- May be subject to inclement weather.

- Must wear phone during working hours.
