Essential Functions

What You’ll Do:

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant County Attorney, you will:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance on County matters, including ordinances, contracts, and land use issues.
  • Represent the County in legal proceedings, including code violations, tax collection, and litigation.
  • Prepare and review legal documents, including proposed ordinances and various contracts.
  • Attend meetings of County boards, commissions, and agencies to provide legal advice.
  • Monitor and interpret federal and state legislation affecting the County.
  • Collaborate with County staff, Board members, and elected officials on legal strategies and responses.

Typical Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Extensive Experience: 3+ years of expertise in the local government or public sector in the state of Virginia.
  • Educational Foundation: ABA-accredited Law School degree and admission to practice before the Virginia Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have held it for at least 2 years
