The Fraud and Consumer Protection Division, Consumer Protection Unit, seeks a Special Investigator. This Special Investigator will support the implementation and enforcement of Senate Bill 40. Senate Bill 40 expands the scope of the Consumer Fraud Act by making certain patterns or practices of violations by landlords of Manufactured Home Communities an unlawful consumer fraud practice. The legislation further authorizes the Attorney General to initiate legal action, including filing petitions in Justice of the Peace Court to establish receiverships of Manufactured Home Communities under specified circumstances.
Specifically, this Special Investigator will review complaints; conduct interviews; prepare and submit timely written reports; assist with the identification and documentation of patterns of unlawful conduct; coordinate with regulatory and law enforcement agencies; use and maintain investigative equipment; use and maintain hardware and software for data analysis, document review and case preparation; work closely and collaborate with other members of the Consumer Protection Unit to prepare cases for prosecution; and perform other duties as required.
1. Experience with financial fraud or other business-related investigations.
- Minimum five years law enforcement experience.
- Ability to investigate complex and difficult cases both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive investigative reports for review by a Deputy Attorney General for civil and criminal complaints.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Current or recent Police Officers Standards Training (“POST”) certification.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), DELJIS, NCIC, and LEISS.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to qualify to carry a DOJ-issued firearm.
- Willingness to travel and attend various training opportunities as needed.
