About the role
The Senior Counsel will join a small, dedicated legal team servicing Haleon’s US business, a leader in the development, manufacturing and marketing of over-the-counter (OTC) healthcare products. In this role, the Senior Counsel will serve as product counsel for several Haleon products and will handle a wide range of significant legal issues affecting various aspects of the business, including: advertising, marketing, trademarks and related IP issues, sales, regulatory, compliance, public affairs, corporate communications, litigation, and business transactions. The Senior Counsel will report to, and work closely with, the Head of Legal for North America, and will have substantial interaction with key leaders throughout the global Haleon business. The Senior Counsel will partner with colleagues throughout the Haleon Legal Compliance & Company Secretariat department to bring broad expertise and support as required to help Haleon accomplish its business objectives. This role provides significant opportunities for career development both within the Haleon US legal team and throughout the broader Haleon Legal department.
Role Responsibilities
Serve as the functional US general counsel for assigned Haleon products:
Represent Legal on several cross-functional teams and committees
Review and advise on advertising claims, copy, trademarks and related IP issues, labelling and other promotional materials
Initiate and defend advertising claim challenges against competitors at industry self-regulatory body and in other forums
Advise business on advertising and marketing matters involving the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and state attorneys general
Counsel business teams on digital and other social media initiatives
Address various sales issues and support interactions with retailer customers
Support commercial development activities advancing Haleon’s strategic interests:
Understand the strategic and tactical objectives of US Haleon business teams, and collaborate to develop solutions consistent with legal and regulatory parameters as well as Haleon policies and procedures
Advise business teams on prospective new products
Negotiate and draft commercial agreements
Support new product launch activities
Represent Haleon at industry trade association meetings on various law and policy issues impacting the business.
Engage with colleagues throughout the Haleon Legal department to bring specialized expertise to address Haleon legal matters, share best practices and important Haleon-related developments with the Legal department, and help advance Legal department objectives.

Basic Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications, skills and attributes:
Strong academic background, Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree
5+ years legal experience in one or more of the following substantive areas: Trademarks, Litigation, Advertising/Marketing, Regulatory, Corporate Transactions, Consumer Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals and/or Consumer Packaged Goods (science background helpful but not required)
3+ years experience in providing legal counsel and guidance on Trademark and Copyright matters
Must be licensed to practice as an attorney in the US
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new legal concepts quickly, proactively identify issues, and succeed in developing solutions in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills, including careful listening to facilitate understanding of business needs, and the ability to translate complex legal considerations into practical business advice
Track record of accountability and sound judgment, including ability and willingness to take ownership of projects, prioritize and resolve issues, and obtain business results
Strong negotiation and drafting skills
Detail-oriented yet pragmatic approach to problem-solving
High energy and motivation to learn new areas, stay current with relevant legal developments, influence leadership, and contribute to the success of the business and the Legal Compliance & Company Secretariat department
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in consumer healthcare or fast-moving consumer goods industry
Deep experience in trademarks and related IP issues
Location: This role is hybrid based in Warren, NJ with in-office expectations of 2-3 days per week

The salary range for this role is: $149,270 - $205,245 plus an 18% bonus.
