The City of Springfield Attorney's office is seeking Paralegal candidates to join our legal team in the Prosecutor's Office. The Law Department represents the City in all legal matters including civil actions brought by or against the City.  The mission statement of the Law Department is to provide quality, professional legal services to the government of the City of Springfield and to provide leadership in areas requiring legal expertise.

The Prosecutor's Office represents the city in prosecuting violations of city ordinances, handles citizen complaints, provides information services to citizens, presents at seminars, and provides information for local businesses on shoplifting, trespassing, property destruction, and other violations.
 
Our paralegals have unparalleled opportunities to take responsibility for assisting in preparing, reviewing and summarizing legal documents and contracts; and conducting legal research involving advanced and complex issues. Our paralegals work autonomously in a litigation support role, and assist in the preparation of cases for both nonjury and jury trials and other hearings.

Qualifications and Requirements


Experience, Education, and Training

  • Associates degree in Legal Studies or related discipline with at least 12 hours of legal course work such as civil trial procedures, legal research and writing, ethics and introduction to law;
AND
  • At least two years of paralegal experience;
OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field with listed course work; 
AND 
  • At least six months of litigation or transactional law experience.
  • Experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Must type accurately at a rate of approximately 50 words per minute. 

Licensing/Certification
Must possess a valid driver's license.
