Position Schedule: Mon – Fri 8am – 5pm Benefit Eligible: Full-benefits/PERS
Job Summary:
The legal assistant will provide professional administrative support to paralegals and attorneys in the County Attorney’s Office. The assignments may be supporting criminal prosecutions, civil litigation, or other legal projects. Given the unique nature of the work in the County Attorney’s Office, the legal assistant can expect to receive a significant amount of on-the-job training. This position also will be cross-trained in all of the various duties performed in the office.

Travel Required:
- Occasional deliveries required to various courts and government offices
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to be courteous, positive and helpful with the general public and other agencies’ staff members, interacting in a professional, diplomatic, and tactful manner on behalf of the County Attorney’s Office
- Must understand and adhere to strict confidentiality requirements
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Strong English skills in spelling, proofreading, grammar and punctuation.
- Thorough knowledge of, and demonstrated ability to use, standard computer applications (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, Power Point).
- Ability to communicate well, in English, in both verbal and written forms
- Ability to accurately and efficiently transcribe recorded material.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to interact constructively with various level staff and in a collaborative “team’ setting.
- Working knowledge of standard office operations, and legal processes and terminology.
- Working knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e. photocopier, fax, multi-function telephone, recording and transcribing equipment, etc.)
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior legal experience preferred
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
- Must authorize and pass criminal background check and investigation to the satisfaction of the Ravalli County Attorney
- Qualify to be Notary Public (License can be obtained after employment)
- Acceptable typing test
Work Environment:
- Office setting
- Occasional overtime
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Ability to visit physical locations involving steep slopes, rough terrain or other difficult environmental conditions.
