Assistant County Attorney II (re-ad 25-00682; 25-00420)

The Chesterfield County Attorney’s Office is seeking to add a full-time litigation attorney at the Assistant County Attorney II level. The position will provide legal counsel to county officials and employees, and handle both trial and appellate litigation in federal and state court. The successful applicant will represent the County and its officials and employees in an exciting variety of litigation matters, including civil rights cases, employment matters, contract disputes, personal injury claims, and more. The position offers significant independence and first-chair opportunities within a collaborative and experienced legal team. 

Candidates must have a strong academic background, federal court litigation experience, and excellent research and writing skills. Candidates will be judged, in significant part, by the quality of their legal writing. Candidates will also be judged by information obtained from references who are familiar with their character and professional achievements. A resume and writing samples are required and must be attached to your application prior to submitting the application online.   A minimum of three years of legal experience, including experience practicing in federal court, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.  A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, a license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and admission to federal court is required at the time of application. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification are required.

Expected starting salary range: $120,000 to $150,000.  However, starting salary is negotiable based on years of experience and qualifications.

Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; some telework opportunity is available.
