Duties The U.S. Attorney's Office is accepting applications for the position of an Assistant United States Attorney to serve in the Civil Division. The attorney must be devoted to justice, excellence, fairness, and representing the public. The attorney will have the opportunity to represent the United States and its agencies and employees in court. This work will include representing the United States and its agencies in civil cases across a broad range of practice areas, as well as in civil investigations of corporations and individuals who commit fraud against the government, harm government property, violate federal laws that protect individuals' civil rights, or violate other federal laws designed to protect the public. The work of the Civil Division is described at https://www.justice.gov/usao-co/civil-division. The attorney will have the responsibility for handling all aspects of civil cases. The attorney must have the ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively, analyze complex legal and factual issues, exhibit good organizational skills, exercise sound judgment, work well both independently and on an inclusive team with attorneys and staff of all backgrounds, negotiate effectively with opposing counsel, and, overall, handle matters with integrity on behalf of the people of the United States of America. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
