The Pro Bono Immigration Specialist is an integral part of Latham’s Human Capital & Talent team. This role will be responsible for supporting the Pro Bono Managing Attorney in overseeing and administering the firm’s pro bono immigration practice, while conducting case audits to understand the status of active matters, liaising with attorneys and legal services partners to resolve issues, maintaining adequate staffing levels, ensuring compliance with case deadlines, and facilitating the timely closure of completed matters.This role will be located in our New York office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Tracking engagement letters, preparing closure letters, and facilitating matter opening and closure when necessary
- Preparing standard immigration filings, like notices to appear, upon the request of the Pro Bono Managing Attorney and in compliance with legal requirements
- Partnering with Litigation Services colleagues on upcoming filings, and supporting Latham attorneys in compiling and submitting filings
- Keeping up-to-date with changes in immigration procedures nationally, and supporting the Pro Bono Managing Attorney in the effective implementation of these procedures
- Training junior staff members on effective compliance procedures for immigration matters
- Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Demonstrate fluency in verbal and written Spanish, with knowledge of other languages a plus
- Possess knowledge and high proficiency in computer applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other MS Office products, and a quick learner for other platforms
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm
And have:
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in an immigration law firm or legal services organization
- Strong working knowledge of US humanitarian immigration pathways and current issues in immigration law and policy, preferably
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent
