We're seeking a Staff Attorney to join our team to provide legal assistance to all of Delta Dental of Wisconsin departments and subsidiaries on contracting matters, including negotiating, drafting, and reviewing contracts; regulatory compliance, including compliance with state and federal laws applicable to our business and subsidiaries' businesses.

This is a full-time role with the option to work fully remote for residents of Wisconsin.

What you'll do as a Staff Attorney: 

  • Lead business contract preparation and negotiation to ensure contracts are enforceable and represent DDWI’s best interests
  • Coordinate vendor onboarding process among legal, business, and information technology teams in compliance with Vendor and Contract Management Policy
  • Assist in maintaining and updating template agreements
  • Assist in DDWI’s contract and document retention practices, including maintaining contract repository and ensuring it remains up to date/accurate
  • Assist in maintaining corporate compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy provisions and requirements and related contractual obligations and act as a resource to DDWI’s Privacy Officer
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Department and the Manager, Legal and Assistant General Counsel to maintain corporate compliance with the insurance laws and regulations of Wisconsin, and those of other states as applicable
  • Conduct legal research based on specific questions in order to provide accurate and timely advice relevant to department issues and concerns
  • Assist in monitoring changing laws and codes, taking action to ensure that DDWI is in compliance, and assist in coordinating company-wide legal initiatives as needed to operationalize changes to laws impacting DDWI
  • Oversee routine claims matters, including subrogation
  • Demonstrate commitment to information security: protect information assets, ensure the security of critical business partners and vendors, keep current with security and risk strategies and plans, and identify security actions that need to be taken based on environment
  • Engage in working relationships with other company and department functions in alignment with DDWI’s values
  • Facilitate implementation of company and department goals and objectives in support of DDWI’s mission
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Ensure operation of systems required to meet department objectives
  • Identify need, develop and communicate key messages to staff and clients seeking assistance in areas of the position’s responsibility
  • Acquire deep knowledge of the insurance industry and the specific business practices of DDWI including employee benefits; HIPAA; ERISA, Medicare and Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, Affordable Care Act, and other regulatory landscapes; compliance; transactional matters; contractual negotiations and procedures; and contractual terms and obligations
