The Director of Pricing and Legal Project Management will lead the firm’s efforts to optimize pricing strategies, enhance client value, and drive profitability across practice groups. This role combines financial acumen, legal industry expertise, and project management capabilities to support partners in structuring engagements that are both competitive and commercially sound. The ideal candidate will be an experienced law firm operations strategic thinker with a deep understanding of law firm economics and a proven ability to influence senior stakeholders.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pricing:
- Develop and implement pricing strategies that align with firm goals and client expectations.
- Partner with attorneys and business development teams to structure fee arrangements, including AFAs (Alternative Fee Arrangements), blended rates, and volume discounts.
- Analyze historical matter data to inform pricing decisions and improve forecasting accuracy.
- Lead pricing negotiations for key client proposals and RFPs.
- Monitor pricing performance and profitability metrics across engagements.
Legal Project Management (LPM):
- Build and manage a philosophy around Legal Project Management to support matter planning, budgeting, and execution.
- Develop and deploy LPM tools, templates, and best practices across the firm.
- Train attorneys and staff on project management principles and tools.
- Collaborate with practice groups to ensure matters are delivered on time and within budget.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to firm leadership on pricing and project management strategy.
- Collaborate with Finance, Business Development, IT, and Practice Group Leaders to drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Lead change management efforts to embed pricing and LPM disciplines into the firm’s culture.
- Present insights and recommendations to executive leadership and client teams.
- Manage a global team of Managers and Analysts
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, JD, or other advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in pricing, financial analysis, or project management within a professional services environment; law firm experience is strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of law firm financials, billing practices, and client service models.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, data analytics, and project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Tableau).
- Experience working in an AmLaw 50 or comparable global law firm.
- Demonstrated success in implementing AFAs and LPM programs.
- Ability to influence and drive change in a partnership environment.
- Client-facing experience and comfort engaging with senior legal and business executives.
