Description

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Legal Counsel (m/f/d) to support the Legal department as well as the local management teams in the US. 

As part of the Legal team you will support several US organisations within your area of responsiblity to reach strategic business goals. 

  • You will be the lead counsel for Aperam's activities in North America, especially for managing the legal matters of Aperam's business units across central and North America to which you will provide pragmatic and timely support on a wide range of business law matters linked to industrial & decarbonization projects. 
  • You will be based in our Pittsburgh location, our site dedicated to processing and trading of stainless steel scrap. 
  • You will report to the ELG Group Head of Legal & Compliance Officer. 


Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities: 

  • Provide accurate and timely legal guidance and support in a variety of legal topics such corporate, environmental, labor law, partnerships, international ventures, corporate finance etc.)
  • Collaborate with management to devise efficient strategies, dealing with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces
  • Ensure compliance with the internal controls, statutory regulations and other formalities
  • Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
  • Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advise on possible legal issues
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.), creating relations of trust
  • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights
  • Development of legal strategy and management of disputes and litigations;
  • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization
  • Conduct your work with integrity and responsibility
  • Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation
  • Implement group compliance measures in specific areas such competition law and economic sanctions, specify, draft and implement local governance and performance of compliance trainings 
  • Promoting the legal department within the company: developing and implementing consistent processes and templates to be used by internal clients; providing frequent trainings; raising legal awareness


Qualifications

Your profile:

  • Trained legal counsel with a postgraduate Law Degree (Master 2) 
  • Work experience of a minimum of 7 years, including a previous experience with international industrial sectors; 
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of US laws (commercial, contracts, environmental, labor)
  • Strong autonomy and capacity to manage multiple projects at once to meet deadlines; Ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies
  • Good organizational, prioritization and time-management skills
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity
  • Ability to analyze complex legal situations and information
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Ability to translate general corporate standards into specific requirements of the company 
  • Clear, concise written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; ability to interact comfortably with senior leaders
  • Fluent in English in writing and orally. Any other spoken language would be a plus
  • Tech- savvy
