Job Description

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Provides information, assistance, advocacy, and specialized community relations by processing complaints; providing and gathering information; conducting research, investigations, and compliance reviews; preparing reports; serving as a resource; and interacting with various parties.  Obtains information by contacting witnesses, attorneys, claimants, and others; developing questions; reviewing files and documents; and performing access audits.   Provides information by answering questions and requests; serving as a resource in areas of general and/or specialized knowledge; attending meetings; and assisting in preparation of public education materials.  Resolves complaints by reviewing files; preparing reports; analyzing data; contacting involved parties; preparing documents, correspondence, and memos.   Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information.  Resolves administrative problems by coordinating preparation of reports; analyzing data; identifying solutions; identifying deficiencies; explaining remedies through correspondence and written instruction; determining jurisdiction; and reviewing additional submissions or materials for compliance.   Recommends litigation/investigation by exhausting avenues for voluntary compliance; analyzing and evaluating evidence; keeping abreast of trends; and maintaining historical context.  Complies with federal/state/local legal requirements by reviewing and evaluating documentation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and studying existing and new legislation/rules.  Provides settlement recommendations by reviewing and evaluating complaints; analyzing programs and services; verifying documentation; studying performance/compliance requirements.  Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops and educational seminars; reviewing appropriate publications.  Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and collaborative manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in social services, legal studies, public administration, or related field and two years of professional work experience.   Advanced education or training may be substituted for work experience and extensive social service experience may be substitute for formal college training.  Requires working knowledge of disability rights issues, laws, rules, etc.   Ability to analyze and apply codes and standards; communicate effectively; and provide advocacy assistance needed.  Attendance is an essential function of this position.  Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public required.
