Duties
The position performs docketing and complex legal report development using computerized case tracking and record-keeping systems in Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO). Serves as a source of procedural and systemic information on all aspects of docketing systems for Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and legal support staff. The automated systems are tools which provide information used to manage litigation from initial referral to final disposition and to provide comprehensive data for resource planning and evaluation. This position is located in the Criminal Section of the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota (USAO-MN) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Typical work assignments will include: Maintaining and extracting data from automated docketing databases and systems; Extracting requested statistical data on a regular basis; Entering new information to databases; Developing, maintaining, and improving docketing functions involving collecting, selecting, organizing, and providing information orally or in written form. Assisting paralegals in obtaining information from the database and in interpreting output. Reviewing reports to identify recurring errors. Occasional receptionist duties. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

To be eligible, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. GS-05: To be eligible at the GS-05 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04. Examples of specialized may include: experience performing clerical and administrative support duties; performing the entry of data into the electronic file and case tracking systems; assisting with conducting periodic file reviews; locating and correcting data entry errors; filing completed documents in appropriate locations. OR Education: Four years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the prerequisite. One year of full-time study is defined as 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) or the equivalent or 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for 36 weeks in business, secretarial or technical school. OR Combination of education and specialized experience: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. GS-06: To be eligible at the GS-06 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05. Examples of specialized may include: experience updating and extracting of legal data; researching a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information; reviewing reports to identify recurring errors; identifying errors of documents or case records; and using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence, and related materials. GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level. Examples of specialized may include: experience using advanced automation techniques to extract legal data from automated databases; conducting periodic case certification reviews; utilizing knowledge of legal terminology, litigation processes and court proceedings to properly docket and identify errors in either input of documents or in the computer record; recommending revision of office procedures to improve the docketing and case management function. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
