If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected human resources team that is responsible for providing recruitment and placement, classification, employee relations, employee benefits, personnel action processing, employee compensation, human resource development and other related services.
Typical work assignments will include:
- Processing personnel actions.
- Providing office automation assistance.
- Assisting with time, attendance and leave management duties.
- Providing clerical and technical support in the areas of recruitment and placement, classification, employee benefits, personnel actions processing.
- Assisting with the new employee orientation process.
- Assisting with the review of security information and documents in relation to pre-employment security processing.
- Reviewing, processing, and resolving problems/discrepancies relative to requests for personnel actions.
- Providing information to employees regarding employee benefits programs.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
This is an excepted service appointment under the Pathways Recent Graduates Program. This appointment is a one year career development program. At the successful completion of the program requirements, you may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional appointment. Each grade has 10 step rates and GS employees are usually hired at step one of the applicable GS grade level at which the applicant qualified. The salary range for a GS-5 in San Francisco, California is $50,925.00- $66,203.00 (step 1 through step 10). Initial appointment through the Recent Graduates Program will begin at GS-5; continued service may lead to promotion to GS-7.

- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

- You must submit a transcript or proof of degree/certificate.
- Recent Graduates serve a trial period for the entire duration of their excepted service appointment.
- You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
To be eligible for a recent graduate appointment, ALL of the following requirements must be met:
- Recent Graduates must have obtained a qualifying associates, bachelors, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying accredited educational institution within the previous 2 years unless military service interfered with a veteran's eligibility to apply during that two year time frame. Veterans meeting the above exclusion may apply within 2 years of discharge or 6 years from the date of receipt of the degree whichever comes first. - Recent graduates must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.)
- You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- All recent graduates are required to sign a Pathways Recent Graduate Participant Agreement.
- Recent Graduates serve a trial period for the entire duration of their excepted service appointment.
- Qualification requirements as outlined below:
Specialized experience is defined as experience applying standardized rules, procedures and operations to provide administrative support; utilizing office automated systems to enter, retrieve and manage data; maintaining, preparing, and assembling files and logs; reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness and reconciling errors; processing and reviewing personnel actions for accuracy, discrepancies, and missing information.
Combining Education and Experience: Successfully completed post-high school education may be used to meet the total one year of specialized experience requirement equivalent to the GS-4 grade level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.
