SUMMARY OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this position is to prepare legal documents.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.- Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Composes and prepares routine correspondence, reports, and other documents.
Compiles, organizes, and maintains database of legal and litigation cases.
Prepares summaries of opinions and decisions.
Conducts legal research and prepares titles, deeds, mortgages, liens, contracts, complaints, resolutions, and other legal documents.
Interviews clients to gather information.
Inventories, stocks and maintains law library books, and recommends and purchases new books and materials.
Accesses reference materials, queries records and files to display and to respond to inquiries for information.
Corresponds with the taxpayer over the phone, in person and in writing.
Evaluates taxpayer credit history to determine ability to pay delinquent taxes.
Provides paralegal support to attorneys in the area of civil litigation, foreclosure, and bankruptcy.
Locates and develops case relevant information.
Performs initial case assessment.
Provides detailed notation of taxpayer interviews in the tax system.
Performs related work.
- Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate’s degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal or related field.
Three (3) years of paralegal or legal secretary experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
