The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Legal Coordinator to join our Legal team! The Legal Department protects and enforces the rights of NFL players, the NFLPA and its subsidiaries. In addition to filing grievances to enforce provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and NFL Player Contracts, the Legal Department assists the Executive Department with collective bargaining and oversees all legal matters involving the NFLPA and NFL Players Inc. The ideal candidate for Legal Coordinator should be a team player who is energetic and self-motivated to handle administrative support to the attorneys in the department and provides assistance to members and agents on legal matters as needed. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information are a must.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Assists with grievance filing and preparation, including discovery, deposition scheduling, settlements, and maintenance of records; also assists with post-hearing submissions and briefs.
- Provides copies of grievances and fine appeals to players and agents as requested; schedules and coordinates appeal hearings, as directed by the attorneys.
- Assists with preparation of case law summaries of injury and non-injury grievance decisions, system arbitration decisions, Section 5 grievance decisions, and agent discipline decisions for use by Legal Department attorneys.
- Drafts letters and other correspondence for the attorneys, including preparing P-1 Visa petition letters for foreign NFL players.
- Prepares, organizes, and retrieves case materials for Legal Department attorneys; assists attorneys with document review.
- Prepares termination pay and injury protection benefit letters for players and their agents regarding eligibility.
- Manages the Neutral Physician list and Second Medical Opinion list; ensures lists on website are kept up to date.
- Reviews applications and background reports of prospective contract advisors; tracks and files documents received for use by Associate General Counsel.
- Assists players with navigating the EMR system and requesting their medical records.
- Processes Legal Department invoices and prepares reports as needed.
- Compiles and enters online expense reports for lawyers as needed.
- Assists attorneys in the administration and execution of projects and administrative tasks including department meetings and events.
- Maintains schedules for the attorneys; sets up conference calls and appointments for department as needed.
- Performs other Legal Department duties as assigned.
This position is non-exempt and is represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), Local 2 and is governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the NFLPA and OPEIU, Local 2. The starting salary for this position is $58,000 annually. Additionally, the NFLPA offers a comprehensive benefit package, a fun, learning culture, and flexible work environment. Full-time employees are required to work in the office a minimum of three days a week.
