Job Description

STARTING PAY: $19.70 per hour

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for daily direction and supervision of activity and work in one of the four following areas at the court: Citation Data Entry, the Court's customer service windows for cash payments or docket settings, or court’s jail arraignments.  Works to maintain accuracy of all computer records per court orders and procedures.  To be successful at this position, you will need to be driven to lead by example, ensuring that you are detail oriented, a team player, and a good public servant.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for ensuring tasks are completed in assigned area are in compliance with judicial orders and administrative policies.
  • Responsible for ensuring tasks are completed in assigned area within established timeframes and communicating any delays in completion of tasks.
  • Resolve errors to maintain accurate status of all court records.
  • Assist clerks in their process regarding complex court issues, including but not limited to citizen complaints/concerns.  
  • Work closely with Judges regarding cases with any possible issues being raised regarding fees/fines on cases.
  • Back-up Executive Assistant during absence or when position is backlogged, by processing payment vouchers, working queues, and processing public information requests.
  • Supervise, mentor, schedule, and train staff supervised, conduct performance evaluations, approve and track leave, and administer disciplinary actions as required.
  • Work with Court Executive Assistant to maintain an inventory of supplies needed for area supervised.
  • Serves as lead member of the arraignment team.  Processing jail arraignments on a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Responsible for understanding all rules and procedures governing the types of transactions that are allowed within established court/Judicial policies.
  • Assist with the answering of phones and other duties as needed.
  • Ability to openly and accurately communicate with court partners, the judge's office, and Amarillo Police Department Prosecutor's Office staff members, to ensure efficient daily operations and keep in line with established procedures.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and five years of 5 years of experience in direct supervision and cash controls. TMCEC court clerk certification preferred.   Applicant must have or be able to obtain a valid DL or ID prior to first day of employment.  Must have experience dealing with the public.  TMCEC Level 1 Court Clerk Certification preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.   

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to concentrate on detailed and complex matters under pressure and with constant distractions and interruptions.
  • Ability to cope with pressures associated with heavy customer volume and a variety of people who are can be difficult to work with.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including a document scanner, calculator, copier, and multi-line telephone system.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer for data entry, word processing and accounting purposes.
  • Ability to work overtime with little or no notice. Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office software, including Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.
