Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Gain knowledge and experience in a corporate legal department while supporting the department’s goals and objectives with respect to a range of substantive legal areas and through a variety of projects and other tasks. The position offers exposure across all corporate lines of business (bank, mortgage, insurance, benefits, realty, and vacation property management) specific to daily operations.

  • Assist with legal support for the Bank’s operations, litigation, and governance matters.
  • Participate in line-of-business communications and workflow task management related to documentation and review and drafting requests.
  • Contribute to projects related to state and/or federal regulatory and other issues affecting the banking industry.
  • Assist Legal Department personnel with the maintenance of subsidiary files, program software, due diligence reviews, and related documentation.
  • Obey all applicable federal laws, rules, and regulations relating to FDIC oversight, including privacy and confidentiality.

Summer Internship Minimum Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Must have completed at least one year at an accredited law school and be currently enrolled in law school
  • Must be available to work Monday through Friday, May 19 - through mid-August
  • Must be punctual and dependable
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Must have the ability to balance multiple priorities successfully
  • Self-starter with a strong ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively utilize modern telecommunications tools
  • Attention to detail and research-oriented with an inquisitive and studious nature
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

  • Express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word via email and verbally.
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, use your arms and legs, and sit most of the time.
  • Have close visual acuity to perform activities such as analyzing data, viewing a computer terminal, reading, and preparing documentation.
  • Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
