Join the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC) as a Staff Attorney II and make a direct impact on the lives of unaccompanied minors and survivors of human trafficking and crime. You’ll provide high-quality legal representation, shape legal strategies, and advocate for justice in immigration and state courts.
Primary Responsibilities
- Represent NMILC clients directly, including legal research, case strategy, client interviews, court appearances, and preparing legal documents.
- Conduct trainings for attorneys, non-legal providers, and community members, including Know-Your-Rights presentations and consultations at community events.
- Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, such as legal service providers, advocacy groups, and government officials.
- Support NMILC’s internal operations by participating in meetings, ensuring data integrity in case management systems, and contributing to office leadership.
- Identify and address legal advocacy issues and service needs, collaborating with staff and partner organizations.
- Represent NMILC at stakeholder meetings, conferences, and community events.
- Supervise and mentor interns/volunteers and oversee legal clinics and community programs with support from managing attorneys.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; admitted to a state bar, with a requirement to become locally admitted within a year if not already.
- Proficiency in Spanish.
- At least two years of relevant immigration law experience.
- Experience working with legal volunteers and managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally competent legal assistance for crime victims/survivors.
- Strong legal research, writing, leadership, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders, including in remote settings.

- NMILC currently offers a generous benefits package, including:
- 100% of Individual Employee Health Premium paid by NMILC for the Base Plan and 50% for dependents. Buy-up Plan also available.
