Basic Function and Responsibility:
To perform advanced clerical work in a specific area of case processing, involving the filing, processing and disposition of cases.
Appointing Authority and Supervision Received:
The deputy court administrator of circuit court and jury supervisor is the appointing authority. The court clerk receives direct supervision by the court clerk supervisor.

Characteristic and Assigned Duties: (The following duties are representative of the position and do not include all duties which may be performed.)
Review legal documents, social files, service, execution, and various other legal documents and forms to ensure adequacy, completeness, and accuracy.
Determine processing required and initiate action by specific document or area of service, which may involve determination and compilation of information, determination of parties to court action, etc.
Determine proper routing of court orders, complaints, petitions, information packets, etc.
File documents.
Determine docket schedule.
Assign court dates.
Appoint attorneys, as required by service area.
Prepare various legal forms and documents such as judgments, orders, executions, warrants, and bonds, which may involve interviews with petitioners.
Enter pertinent initial and updated data relating to areas of service and case activity.
Receipt monies.
Maintain attorney lists and other relevant records.
May sit in on court proceedings and assist the Judiciary, such as marking exhibits, swearing witnesses, etc.
Photocopy relative documents.
Record court records by operation of audiotape machine and maintain tapes as required by area of service.
Perform related work as required to include but not limited to serve on teams/committees as assigned, cross-train and/or act as relief for other jobs as assigned, and work on special projects as assigned.
Distribute judicial orders.
Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Typing speed of at least 35 words per minute.
Knowledge of the operation of a personal computers word processing, spreadsheets, and related software.
Knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation.
Knowledge of office procedures and record-keeping.
Ability to make sound decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, departmental policies, and procedures.
Ability to understand complex procedures and determine and prepare material from such procedures.
Ability to compile and maintain records.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to prepare clear, complete and logical reports.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to deal with interruptions while completing work within deadlines.
Ability to organize a variety of demands on time and prioritize work accordingly in a timely manner.
Ability to be accurate and detail minded.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Ability to work and relate in a positive fashion toward individuals from diverse backgrounds and maintain effective working relationships.
Skill in the operation of scanners and other standard office equipment.
Good alpha-numeric data entry skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent plus one year of varied administrative experience performing a wide range of technical office duties.
