Job Description
The Counsel, Privacy and Compliance will report to the Deputy General Counsel, supporting the Chief Legal Officer, and provide legal support and advice on a wide variety of matters related to MRO Corporation (MRO) and its subsidiaries. This Counsel position requires an understanding of contract law, experience building strong business relationships, and negotiation skills.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Collaborate regularly with members of the privacy and legal teams to help streamline work and promote/implement effective risk management
- Counsel and advise on data privacy protection provisions in commercial contracts, including updating templates and negotiating data processing addendums and business associate agreements
- Manage the privacy program, including disclosure incidents and breach response
- Support internal teams on incident response, threat detection, containment, and mitigation
- Drive awareness on privacy and security issues, including development of training, policies, and guidelines that help business stakeholders spot and address data security and privacy issues as they emerge
- Track, plan for, and monitor local, national and global laws impacting privacy matters
Education And Qualifications
- Juris Doctor Degree (JD) from accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law by the bar of at least one state
- 3+ years of experience in a multi-client law firm, health insurer, hospital, or similar organization
- 3+ years of health care experience, CIPP/US certification preferred
- Demonstrated experience in a law firm and/or in-house corporate law department required
- Strong knowledge of corporate transaction practices
- Strong interpersonal, writing, and verbal communications skills
- Ability to interact with all levels of management
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and able to work independently and as a part of a team to prioritize responsibilities, take initiative and self-motivate/self-manage work and time
