The Harris County Attorney's Office (HCAO) is hiring an administrative coordinator to join our General Counsel Division which provides legal advice and counsel to Harris County elected and appointed officials or their department heads. The General Counsel Division also provides general legal services covering a wide range of issues and handles all transactional matters for Harris County. Additionally, the General Counsel Division provides legal advice as it pertains to compliance with the Texas Public Information Act (“PIA”) and submits requests for opinions to the Texas Attorney General on behalf of all Harris County elected and appointed officials or their department heads.
The administrative coordinator in this role is responsible for developing efficiencies and identifying solutions to improve client service and providing high-level administrative support to the Directors of the General Counsel Division and other members of the Division as necessary. Additionally, the administrative coordinator will assist the PIA Coordinator with handling PIA matters as necessary to ensure that each request is handled in compliance with the requirements of the Texas Public Information Act.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises and trains additional support staff as necessary to ensure General Counsel is providing high-level legal services to Harris County.
- Gathers and analyzes data to identify opportunities to create efficiencies in the work of General Counsel.
- Develops and implements new systems and technology to improve the work product of General Counsel.
- Develops and manages new processes and workflows to create efficiencies and improve the work product of General Counsel.
- Identifies opportunities and assists with sharing relevant data, information, or reports with the Executive Team in CAO and, if applicable, relevant clients.
- Performs administrative tasks including, maintaining records and files; drafting letters and memos; developing agendas; and preparing presentations, reports, and other documents for General Counsel staff.
- Conducts research, compile data, and coordinates information retrieval to assist with multifaceted tasks and develop special projects.
- Facilitates team-building and educational opportunities for the Division.
- Manages Division Directors’ calendars; schedules and coordinates meetings and events; attends as required; takes notes and records minutes.
- Provides high-level administrative support and assistance to the Division Directors, and other assigned Division staff.
- Develops and manages relationships with staff within other divisions of the HCAO and others related to assigned projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Associates degree in a directly related field from an accredited college or university and
- Three (3) years of directly related experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution and
- Five (5) years of directly related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to take initiative and develop resources to increase efficiencies within the Division.
- Exhibit excellent strategic, leadership, verbal and written communication skills, and analytic capabilities.
- Extreme proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software with the ability to learn new or updated software.
- Ability to perform complex administrative skills for support of the Division and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to work without direct supervision, and have excellent decision-making, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Exhibit a high level of professionalism and regard for confidentiality.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced environment.
- Occasional ability to work extended hours to accommodate caseload demands.

- General Information
Located in downtown Houston, the Harris County Attorney’s Office represents Harris County government, the Harris County Flood Control District, the Harris County Toll Road Authority, and the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network in all civil matters, including lawsuits. The office also provides legal advice to county officials and employees.
Position Type, Typical Work Schedule, and Working Environment:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional weekends and holidays as necessary. Hours may vary based on the business needs of the HCAO.
The selected candidate may be eligible to participate in the HCAO telework program.
This job typically operates in a professional office environment, and the individual in this role uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners/copiers, and phones.
Compensation:
The base compensation for this position will be determined on the candidate’s qualifications and the pay of other employees in the job function. Total compensation includes attractive paid leave programs, health benefits, and retirement plans.
In addition, the position is eligible for the accrual of compensatory time off for hours worked over 40 in a workweek, consistent with Harris County personnel policies and procedures.
Physical and Mental Demands:
This is largely a sedentary role that requires standing or sitting for prolonged periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body, repetitive motions requiring dexterity such as keyboarding that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, communicating with others to exchange concepts and information, problem-solving, decision-making, organization, the ability to read/write, and the ability to manage workplace stressors such as adversarial interactions.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
