The Louisiana Department of Health is seeking a dynamic Attorney Supervisor to provide high-level legal guidance and leadership within the Bureau of Legal Services. This pivotal role serves as an advisor on complex legal matters, issues, and litigation related to Emergency Preparedness and the Office of Public Health. The Attorney Supervisor will oversee and support legal functions for multiple bureaus, including Engineering, Laboratory Services, EMS, Chronic Disease Prevention and Healthcare Access, and Community Preparedness. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned legal professional to make a statewide impact and ensure legal compliance across critical health programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law plus four years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Provide highly technical legal advice, assistance, and consultation to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Undersecretary, Director of Emergency Preparedness, Assistant Secretary of OPH, Executive Counsel, General Counsel, and Deputy General Counsels.
  • Collaborate extensively with managerial and administrative staff within the Office of Public Health (OPH) on complex legal and programmatic issues.
  • Research, interpret, and apply state and federal laws, regulations, and policies impacting OPH programs and emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Advise leadership on legal implications of agency operations, programs, and decisions to ensure compliance and reduce legal risk.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on matters involving OPH’s offices, programs, services, and staff.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the organization, structure, and functions of the Louisiana Department of Health and its program offices.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that align with legal standards and support the agency’s mission.

Compensation: This position is eligible for a Premium Pay of up to $2.00/hr for hours worked based on longevity.

Attorney Supervisor - $36.66 hourly / $2,932.80 bi-weekly
