JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Corporate Attorney to join our legal team as a versatile legal advisor supporting all aspects of our growing multi-state cannabis operations. This role will provide comprehensive legal guidance across multiple business functions including commercial transactions, marketing compliance, vendor relationships, labor & employment matters, and risk management. The ideal candidate will bring broad legal expertise, in-house experience, strong business acumen, and the ability to navigate the complex regulatory environment of the cannabis industry while adapting to diverse legal challenges.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General Corporate Legal Work
- Provide day-to-day legal advice to various business departments including operations, marketing, sales, and executive leadership
- Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including vendor contracts, service agreements, and business partnerships
- Manage resolution of vendor contract disputes and other commercial matters
- Support litigation management and oversee outside counsel relationships
- Assist with investor relations and corporate governance matters
- Advise marketing department on promotional models, terms and conditions, and compliance with cannabis advertising regulations
- Support business development initiatives and new market entry strategies
Labor and Employment Law
- Collaborate with the People Experience department on employment-related legal matters
- Ensure employment policies and employee handbooks remain current and compliant with state and federal regulations
- Provide guidance on hiring, termination, and disciplinary processes
- Handle EEOC, NLRB, and other relevant state and federal agency matters
- Advise on workplace accommodations and leave management
Risk Management
- Collaborate with finance, contract specialist, property management, and/or People Experience departments on insurance matters
- Provide legal input on risk mitigation strategies across the business
- Assist with insurance claims when legal expertise is required
- Support compliance initiatives to minimize operational and regulatory risks
- Identify emerging legal risks in the cannabis industry and develop mitigation strategies
QUALIFICATIONS
- JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership
- 5+ years of relevant legal experience, with at least 3 years in-house
- Experience in multiple areas of business law including contracts, commercial transactions, and corporate governance
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Excellent communication abilities and business judgment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Cannabis industry experience preferred but not required
- Experience with regulated industries a plus
