The role sits within the Technology Legal team and will be based in our New York or Dallas office.
This role will involve acting as a subject matter expert on legal and regulatory issues related to artificial intelligence (AI), including its procurement, development, management, and integration into products and services at the firm. In addition, the role will focus on the use of firm data in AI model training and applications. The successful candidate will work as part of a global team of lawyers responsible for advising the firm on issues pertaining to AI, data protection, data governance, cybersecurity, cyber incident response, sourcing and privacy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advise the Engineering Division and business units across the firm on AI regulation and governance.
- Provide legal support and advise stakeholders on issues relating to the development of AI applications and models.
- Advise on emerging laws and regulations relating to AI, with a focus on AI use cases involving the processing of personal data. Familiarity with the EU AI Act and the General Data Protection Regulation is essential.
- Support attorneys across lines of business with the integration of AI into their products and services, including advising on enterprise and platform risk and appropriate mitigation.
- Collaborate with other legal subject matter experts in privacy, cybersecurity, sourcing and intellectual property in relation to specific strategic initiatives.
- Provide legal advice to company affiliates globally on the full range of AI, privacy, data governance, and cybersecurity issues.
- Support governance and control functions with managing AI risk and building firmwide systems to manage AI systems.
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
- Licensed and Barred Attorney
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a technology attorney in a law firm or in-house role.
- Familiarity with global regulatory issues relevant to the use of AI technology in financial services, including cloud, outsourcing, and third-party risk management.
- Knowledge of global data protection regulations, including GDPR.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and legal research skills.
- Proven ability to independently identify issues, analyze problems, and provide viable solutions.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure, handle deadlines, and manage multiple tasks in a high-performance environment.
- Good leadership skills and demonstrated project management experience.
- Effective communicator and team player; experience preparing and conducting AI and data protection training.
