Job Description

Summary: Staff designated at Dickinson Wright PLLC (“the Firm”) as a Litigation Trial Paralegal are under the general supervision of the attorneys to whom assigned, as well as the Chief Human Resources Officer.  Candidates will be involved in and assist with all aspects of case preparation and file management from commencement through settlement or trial, including the set-up of electronic equipment in the courtroom and providing courtroom assistance, as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities of staff designated as Litigation Trial Paralegal at the Firm include but are not limited to:

  1. Responsible for overall case file maintenance, including indexing and filing case materials, as well as administrative case management and litigation support, including the coordination of document production, organizing and indexing documents, preparing witness files and exhibits, and assisting during depositions and trials;
  2. Assist attorneys with all phases of discovery, including first draft of responses to discovery as directed;
  3. Manage, organize and update large volumes of documents including hard copies and electronic files and maintain a master set of all documents;
  4. Assist with the preparation and drafting of briefs, memoranda, exhibits;
  5. Work closely with the attorneys and support staff to facilitate a seamless flow of information among the litigation team and maintain and manage attorney calendar for court deadlines;
  6. Organize and synthesize information through the preparation of summaries, chronologies, reports, spreadsheets;
  7. Draft and review routine legal documents (e.g., correspondence, privilege logs, exhibit lists, discovery, disclosures, etc.);
  8. Assist attorneys on cases by providing computerized support to help them plan, organize, research, analyze, argue and present their cases in a more cost and time efficient manner;
  9. Provide the day-to-day support of data management.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Required:

Litigation Trial Paralegals must possess:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree or Litigation Trial Paralegal certificate are highly recommended. At least 3 years of recent on-the-job experience is required;
  2. General knowledge of state and federal court rules, procedures and e-filing requirements;
  3. Excellent communication skills for contacting clients, experts, and other outside parties;
  4. Excellent proofreading skills;
  5. Candidates must be self-motivated; and a team player; 
  6. Proficiency with Trial Director and experience using one or more ESI discovery platforms, such as Relativity, as well as cite-checking, shepardizing cases, blue booking cases, preparing tables of contents, and tables of authorities;
  7. Additional requirements include a working knowledge of Windows 10, Microsoft Office 2016, Word 2016, Excel 2016, Outlook 2016, use of styles, NetDOCS or similar document management system, Change Pro, CoreRelate, Litera templates/schemes; and
  8. Adobe DC experience is helpful, though not required.

Working Conditions:

Normal law office environment with little exposure to noise, dust, temperature.
