Job Description:
This position will work closely with the attorneys in our St. Louis office handling court filings, proofreading documents, preparing correspondence, and any other duties necessary to support the attorneys’ needs. The legal assistant will perform a broad range of case related duties under supervision as outlined below as well as various office coordinator duties to support the St. Louis office.
Primary Responsibilities:

1. Electronically file and serve essential court documents in multi-state jurisdictions.
2. Plan and prepare court orders and monitor status of court entered orders.
3. Prepare state and federal court filings.
4. Drafting notices, dismissals and appearances for attorney review.
5. Proofread attorney motions and pleadings.
6. Familiarity with State and Federal court procedures and rules.
7. Collect and coordinate entering of STL consent motions and STL dismissals for Chicago and STL offices.
8. Communicate effectively with attorneys in order to finish all assigned work.
9. Coordinate with other legal assistants and/or staff members to ensure that all work is completed in a timely fashion.
10. Drafting and editing correspondence.
11. Saving e-File stamped documents to case management system.
12. Correspondence with opposing counsel and court clerks.
13. Document conversions including document formatting.
14. Entering Attorney time for court docket hearings.
15. Remain prepared to fill in and complete any office-related administrative tasks.
16. Remain willing to help around the firm as needed.

Job Requirements:
- Previous law firm experience (2+ years)
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Must be detail-oriented and possess a high level of organizational skills.
- Must be able to meet tight deadlines with accuracy.
- Experience with e-filing in state and federal court.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Previous insurance defense/asbestos experience
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, have superior communication, organizational, computer and client service skills and be able to multi-task. Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work well under pressure and desire to take initiative are a must.
