OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Paralegal is part of defense operations —the division of MagMutual devoted to defending MagMutual’s PolicyOwners in medical malpractice lawsuits and medical licensing matters. This role is responsible for a variety of duties to support trial attorneys in the representation of healthcare providers and entities.

This role is responsible for a variety of duties to support trial attorneys in the representation of healthcare providers and entities.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Provide support to trial attorneys through traditional paralegal work during the investigation, discovery, and trial of medical malpractice lawsuits and medical board matters.
- Handle daily case management and administration.
- Track and organize files.
- Draft discovery and pleadings.
- Perform investigative research on parties and experts.
- Review medical records and compile chronologies.
- Handle court filings and monitor dockets.
- Schedule depositions and client meetings and manage attorney calendars.
- Assist attorneys in preparation for meetings, court events, depositions, and trials.
- Oversee subpoenas and other aspects of written discovery.
- Utilize case management software and record retrieval vendors.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 1-2+ years of prior medical malpractice experience.
- Paralegal certificate required.
- Familiarity with laws, legal procedures and protocols, and local court system.
- Courtroom exposure a plus.
- Knowledge of defense work required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy and satisfactory knowledge of daily operations of a legal office.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, think independently, handle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity and experience working with case management software.
- Familiarity and experience working with record retrieval vendors.
- Ability to project a professional demeanor at all times.
- High degree of confidentiality.
