
Job Description
Your Role:
A Legal Assistant’s job is to support a legal team of the law firm by performing administrative tasks and providing administrative assistance.
Your Responsibilities:
- Maintaining calendars and deadlines for court dates, filing deadlines, and client meetings.
- Scheduling depositions, hearings, legal proceedings, and appointments for attorneys.
- Creating electronic files, preparing and processing correspondence, memoranda, and complex legal documents.
- Preparing documents for state and federal court filings, and e-filing in various state and federal courts.
- Filing documents with state and federal court using e-filing systems.
- Communicating with clients by phone, email, or in person, and screen and direct incoming calls.
- Creating and maintaining legal files, including transcripts, and organizing documents.
- Maintaining and processing case information, managing the progression of cases to final disposition.
- New client intake and file maintenance utilizing the firm's electronic records management system.
- Scheduling coordination of travel and expense reimbursement.
- Managing client expenses and invoices from third-party vendors.
- Assisting with month-end billing for the supervising attorney.
- Administrative duties include but are not limited to copying, filing, and transcription.
- Maintaining confidentiality of attorney-client relationship.
- Back up for Receptionist as needed.
- Additional tasks as assigned.
Requirements
Your Skills and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years of relevant experience.
- Personal injury litigation and trucking experience preferred.
- Document management experience with legal case management software knowledge preferred.
- Occasional time entry for supervising attorney.
- Understanding legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Keen attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
