Full Pay Range: $97,802.77 to $146,704.15 annually DOE

Position Summary:
Primary function includes misdemeanor prosecution in the Prescott City Court. Assists City Attorney on civil matters as assigned.
Essential Duties:
- Performs the duties of the Assistant City Attorney in the Criminal Division as a Prosecutor.
- Resolves misdemeanor prosecutions and municipal code violations.
- Performs pre-trial work and discovery; conducts officer and defense interviews; prepares motions; and contacts victims.
- Prepares and participates in court proceedings, hearings, mediation, and trials; arranges for and attends depositions.
- Prepares and drafts letters, memos, and pleadings regarding litigation, settlements, plea bargains, and negotiations.
- Researches, interprets, and applies laws.
- Works on appeals.
- Renders oral and written legal opinions on matters affecting the City's legal interests.
- Represents the City in civil litigation matters either directly or through outside legal counsel.
- Prepares and/or reviews legal documents including contracts and other agreements, resolutions, ordinances, and policies.
- Maintains current knowledge of legal trends and current case law relevant to municipal government.
- Organizes, interprets, and applies legal principles and knowledge to complex legal problems.
- Observes information and conditions affecting the City's legal interests to help determine compliance with the law.
- Provides sound legal advice to City departments; provides timely legal advice to municipal boards and commissions as needed.
- Works on municipal law related issues when assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Juris Doctorate degree from law school accredited by the American Bar Association; preferred two (2) or more years of municipal or other civil government practice experience with prosecution experience.
Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements:
Hold active membership, in good standing, with the Arizona State Bar Association.

- Skill in negotiating effectively and persuasively in both oral and written communications.
- Skill in using applicable computer software.
- Ability to draft documents relevant to legal matters.
- Ability to work independently to protect the City's interests.
- Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to various types of cases assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a City office environment and in a courtroom environment.
- Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicates in person, electronically, and over the telephone.
