Job Description:

This work matters! The Child Advocacy and Protection Division (CAPD) is seeking an experienced and goal-oriented Legal Support Manager (Legal Support Services Supervisor 1) in our Portland office. Innovative problem-solvers who can successfully manage workloads while providing excellent legal support in assistance of division Assistant Attorneys General and legal processes will excel in this position.

The successful candidate will serve as the Legal Support Manager of the Portland CAPD office, a part of the Northern Region Leadership Team, and will play an essential role in the division to provide legal services to Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare Division branches served out of the Portland office. In support of a positive work/life balance for the successful candidate, this position offers an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule (remote and in office work).

Our Mission

To provide quality and timely legal advice and effective court representation to the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Child Welfare Division in order to protect children from abuse and neglect and to support families, allowing children to grow up in safe and stable environments.

What You Will Do (in part)

  • Oversee Daily Operations of Legal Support Teams in Support of Attorneys and Legal Processes.

  • Mentor, Develop, Coach, and Provide Direction to Employees.

  • Collaborate with our Northern Region Leadership Team to Develop and Facilitate Goals.

  • Cultivate a Welcoming Atmosphere That Recognizes the Value of Individual and Cultural Differences.

  • Work with Internal and External Partners to Achieve Mutual Successes.

Desired Skills, Experiences, and Attributes

  • Proven experience supervising the day-to-day operations of support teams in accordance with appropriate laws/rules, legal concepts, and principals of law.

  • Ability to build good working relationships and communicate with people at all levels.

  • Experience reviewing needs of a team and the ability to manage workloads and provide services.

  • Experience managing employees in a union work environment.

  • Willingness to provide quality service to both internal and external customers.

  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.

  • Experience participating in professional development with employees including performance evaluations, ongoing coaching, and potentially disciplinary actions.

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent writing and analytical skills.

  • Ability to effectively interact and work with people of various cultural backgrounds.

  • Predictable and reliable attendance, including the ability to work after hours to accommodate project schedules and requirements. Limited travel in state as necessary.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Teams, and other appropriate technology.

Required

  • Three years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Work experience is based on a 40-hour work week. (Example: 20 hours a week for one year would equal six-months of work experience.)
