Job Description

COMC is looking to hire an accomplished Director of Legal at our Redmond, WA location. This person will be the company’s first in-house legal hire, playing a pivotal role in shaping the legal function and driving business strategy.

The Director of Legal will transition legal operations in-house, reducing reliance on external counsel. This high-impact role requires a proactive, business-minded legal leader who can build legal frameworks from scratch, manage risk, and support company growth. Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Legal will work cross-functionally to provide guidance on corporate governance, contracts, employment law, intellectual property, and regulatory matters. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Transition the legal function in-house, taking on primary responsibility for day-to-day legal matters and reducing reliance on external counsel in the first 6 months.
  • Establish and lead the company’s legal function, developing policies and processes to support a fast-growing business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including commercial agreements, partnerships, and employment matters.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to leadership on corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support M&A, financings, and other strategic transactions.
  • Oversee intellectual property matters, including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Advise on employment law, policies, and dispute resolution.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel for specialized legal matters.
  • Develop and implement training, policies, and best practices to mitigate legal risks.
  • Serve as role model, embodying the company’s values and driving a positive work environment.
  • Play an active role in hiring, developing, and retaining top talent, as well as managing performance through regular check-ins, reviews, and performance management cycles.
  • Uphold the company’s C.A.R.D culture, exhibit integrity and maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar membership.
  • 8+ years of legal experience, ideally a mix of in-house and law firm background.
  • Strong expertise in corporate, contract, and regulatory law.
  • Experience building and scaling legal functions in a high-growth environment.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and provide practical, business-focused legal advice.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to educate and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing external counsel and legal budgets.

 

Work Location

Preferred: Redmond, WA

Remote Work: Hybrid arrangement available — on-site presence required 1 day per week

 

Work Schedule

Employment Type: This role is open to both full-time and part-time candidates, depending on the applicant’s availability and qualifications. Final scope and schedule will be mutually agreed upon during the hiring process.
