Job Summary:

We are currently looking for a Corporate Counsel to work within the Anywhere Brands Legal Department. Anywhere Brands includes Anywhere’s affiliated franchised brands as well as the shared services functions of franchise sales, central operations, contract administration, finance and cross brand marketing. This position is based out of our Corporate Headquarters in Madison, NJ and is remote.

The Corporate Counsel position is responsible for reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and providing advice to our brands on franchise sales and renewals, addenda to existing agreements, ongoing rights and obligations under agreements, new product development, marketing programs, vendor contracts, franchisee disputes and franchisee compliance matters and advising management on strategic matters.

This role will work closely with the shared service departments that support the Anywhere Brands franchised brands, such as the Franchise Sales, Contract Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Compliance. 

The role will interface and coordinate with corporate legal functions such as Litigation, IT, Intellectual Property, and Employment Law. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting and negotiating franchise agreements and related documents to help the business attain growth and retention goals
  • Negotiating vendor contracts preferably with some SaaS, Information Technology experience
  • Reviewing marketing materials for legal compliance 
  • Providing expert advice to the company on laws, rules and regulations affecting the business
  • Providing guidance to business clients on ways to achieve business success while minimizing risk
  • Partnering with the business on key critical initiatives
  • Proactively identifying and communicating potential issues early on
  • Thought leadership on continuous process improvement opportunities
  • Steadfast focus on reinforcing the best interests of the company

Minimum Qualifications:

  • JD Degree from an accredited law school
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of legal experience 
  • Franchise law experience preferred
  • Some in-house legal experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and interact well with all staff and all levels of management
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Preference for understanding of franchise laws and regulations
  • Consultative approach to supporting business objectives while mitigating risk
  • High degree of integrity, respect and dedication to the company’s values
  • Positive, “can do” demeanor
