Position Summary:
Manages and maximizes the recovery of legal claims activity by ensuring timely and accurate processing. Primarily responsible for managing the preparation of pleadings and related legal processes for accounts placed for civil legal action.Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for learning, training, assigning and monitoring legal accuracy and conformance to policies in various states
Ensures team members verify, update and properly code account information
Manages production flow of legal processes to ensure timely filing and critical deadlines are met
Communicates with in-house counsel on various legal matters, generates responses to legal matters as necessary or directed, escalates legal matters as necessary to appropriate parties
Exhibits effective verbal and written communication skills to ensure flow of information up and down the chain of authority.
Maintains a professional demeanor with employees, visitors, guests and vendors.
Works closely with AVP and keeps them abreast of all management and workload issues
Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies across areas of organizational responsibility
Acts as a liaison between team and upper departmental management.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises a team of non-supervisory non-exempt legal clerks.
Responsibilities include participating in interview process and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Prepares annual reviews; prepares and documents disciplinary actions; make recommendations concerning discharge of employees to AVP/Human Resources; conducts employee discharge meetings with Human Resources.
Approves automated time and attendance data for subordinates Determines staffing requirements and discusses with AVP; communicates with recruiters to identify and fill permanent and temporary assignments under the guidance of the AVP. Interviews and selects candidates for positions in department. Communicates assignment changes
Conducts performance counseling and coaching on a periodic basis with team members; make recommendations for salary change, establishes and maintains an environment that encourages team work and individual efforts and ethical behavior
Performs or assist subordinates in performing duties as required depending on workload.
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; Associates Degree in Business or Liberal Arts Preferred.
Paralegal degree preferred or the equivalent amount of related experience
2+ years management plus office/teamwork.
2+ years legal experience.
Minimum of 2+ years of management plus office/teamwork experience required; 2+ years legal experience.
Knowledge of Fair Debt Collections and Practices Act (FDCPA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA); must complete new hire FDCPA training with minimum passing scores.
Working knowledge of Excel and Word
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to both lead and work independently as well as follow routine written, verbal and visual instructions
Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
Able to define problems, organize and collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
