The City of Hampton is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Victim Support Specialist to support the goals of the Operation Ceasefire program. This role plays a key part in engaging with victims, families, and witnesses of non-fatal shootings and other violent crimes, offering immediate and ongoing support as they navigate both trauma and the criminal justice system. Under the general supervision of the Victim Witness Director, this position ensures victims receive timely care, resources, and information essential to their recovery and participation in the justice process.

*This position is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduation from high school; graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology or a related field.  
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in direct delivery of human services. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • May require working non-standard hours including evenings, holidays and weekends.  
  • May require some local travel. 

Additional Requirements
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
