Position Description

The Internal Communications Senior Director – Legal will help lead internal communications and employee engagement strategy for Lilly Legal, Ethics & Compliance (E&C), and Integrated Risk Management (IRM). This role will collaborate with the Internal Communications Associate Vice President, Global Communications teams and business partners in Legal, E&C, and IRM to develop a comprehensive internal communications strategy that enhances employee engagement and drives business results.


The ideal candidate will have extensive strategic internal communications experience, particularly in legal or ethics & compliance, superior writing skills, strong executive communications experience, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment. This position reports to the Internal Communications Associate Vice President and serves on the Internal Communications lead team.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an internal communications strategy for Legal and Ethics & Compliance (E&C), with a focus on Integrated Risk Management (IRM).
  • In collaboration with the Internal Communications Associate Vice President and Global Communications team members, drive streamlined, creative, connective, and forward-looking communications activities.
  • Implement a measurable organizational change management (OCM) communications plan to drive behavior changes across the enterprise for IRM.
  • Create key communications materials, including executive scripts, talking points, and strategic content for internal channels and forums.
  • Partner with Global Communications and other business areas to manage urgent, time-sensitive internal communications related to crisis and issues.
  • Align with Internal Communications lead team members on channel strategy and measurement best practices, leveraging data and analytics to refine strategy and execution.
  • Collaborate with External Communications, Executive Communications, and Communications Activation teams to ensure strong alignment on media outreach, external speaking engagements, and social media strategies.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of communications professionals as the team expands.
  • Oversee external agencies and vendors, as needed.
Requirements
  • Extensive corporate or agency experience in internal communications and employee engagement, preferably in the legal or ethics & compliance space.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing internal communications strategies and organizational change management communications plans with measurable results.
  • Strong ability to collaborate across a highly matrixed organization and build trusted relationships.
  • Demonstrated success in driving high performance within teams.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior leaders.
  • Ability to work efficiently and with urgency under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Highly organized, independent problem solver with strong project management capabilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail while maintaining a strategic, big-picture mindset.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related field.
  • 10+ years of diverse communications experience in corporate or agency settings, with a focus on internal communications or employee engagement.
  • Pharmaceutical or healthcare industry experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Lilly does not provide employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this position.

Location

Indianapolis preferred. Hybrid work schedule allowed.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$150,000 - $220,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
