Job Description

Summary

This position is responsible for performing clerical duties in support of the Bibb County Superior Court Clerk’s office whose mission it is to act as custodian of court and land records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answers telephones, routes calls, takes messages, files cases and records.
  • Assists customers, responds to questions and requests from the public.
  • Accepts cases and legal documents for filing from public and attorneys.
  • Prepares subpoenas.
  • Research real estate filings and plats, divorce files, and other records.
  • Prepares folders for new cases; records case dispositions in minute book and files same.
  • Maintains records of files checked out by court personnel.
  • Certifies court documents, issues Notary Public certificates.
  • Assists unrepresented customers with electronic filing.
  • Processes payments for court filings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience

High school or GED with a minimum of (1) year in office functions or equivalent combination of education and experience to provide knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the functions, operations, and procedures of courts.
  • Knowledge of relevant state laws governing civil, criminal, and real estate procedures.
  • General and basic skills in mathematics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and office equipment.
  • Strong computer and technology skills and the ability to learn new software and equipment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security of private or confidential information.   
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization and public.
  • Demonstrated ability to show good judgment, consistency, timeliness and respect in decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results on a timely basis.
  • Business attire required.
