Overview

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, an AmLaw 100 law firm, is in search of an E-Discovery Associate to join Nelson Mullins in its discovery practice group, in either its Charlotte, North Carolina, Nashville, Tennessee, or Columbia, South Carolina, office. This is an opportunity for an associate to join an expanding and fast-paced practice that offers a range of litigation-related discovery and counseling services to clients in a variety of industries.

A Day in the Life

You will be joining a dynamic team of litigators and technology professionals who have substantial courtroom experience at the state and federal levels for client across the country. There is no “typical day” in this role as the responsibilities and duties are dynamic and will cover a wide-range of possibilities, including:

  • Drafting and implementation of discovery protocols, discovery motions, protective orders, and information governance policies and procedures.
  • Legal writing and research on discovery issues.
  • The use of cutting-edge technology and analytics to efficiently meet client demands, including AI and GenAI.
  • Oversight of data analysis and document reviews for relevance, privilege, and other case-specific criteria.
  • Close partnership with clients to evaluate their e-discovery needs and provide consultative support to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Collaboration with legal teams, both internal and external, to manage and execute e-discovery processes and strategies for various cases.
  • Utilization of e-discovery software, particularly Relativity, to collect, process, review, and produce electronic documents and data.
  • Staying updated on case law, industry trends, and best practices in e-discovery and information governance.
  • Training and mentoring of junior staff on e-discovery procedures and technologies.

We Know You

You possess 2 to 5 years of meaningful experience in complex litigation, with significant exposure to discovery issues.  You have a litigation background and have prior experience in negotiation and motions practice. You are a first-rate communicator whose written and oral advocacy skills are outstanding and can quickly build a great rapport with clients, particularly in-house counsel and information technology teams. Proficiency in the use of e-discovery software, particularly Relativity, is preferred but not required. You are admitted to and in good standing (or willing to be addmitted to) in North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee.
