The Bronx District Attorney’s Office seeks an experienced attorney to help oversee post-conviction litigation, including direct appeals, motion responses, and federal writs of habeas corpus, and to help run a busy appeals bureau. The Office seeks a well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the over 1.3 million Bronx County residents and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Brief and argue appeals and other post-conviction matters in New York State and federal courts
- Edit briefs of junior Appeals ADAs
- Oversee and manage all mental hygiene litigation in office
- Prepare case status, statistical, and annual reports as required
- Serve as a moot court judge for other Appeals ADAs
- Serve as a "Team Leader" for junior Appeals ADAs
- Provide legal counsel to office executives and trial and investigative bureaus
- All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

- A Juris Doctorate degree and either:
- 7+ years of appellate experience in a DA’s Office or
- 10+ years of experience in a DA’s Office plus 5+ years of clerkship, legal counsel, or other relevant experience
- Management experience preferred
- US Citizenship and New York State Residency as of first day of employment
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to motivate, direct, and evaluate all levels of staff
- Sound judgment, strong sense of ethics, and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent people skills and demeanor
- Ability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed
