This remote role will allow you to do your best work from your home office, collaborating virtually with your team daily. You will travel to our Raleigh office for meetings and company events up to four times a year. 
  

The OPPORTUNITY

Leverage your experience and join our expanding team as a Litigation Specialist! As a member of the Claims Litigation Team, the Litigation Specialist provides the litigation management of complex litigated commercial and auto liability cases across the Builders Mutual business territory, with a heavy concentration in construction. The Litigation Specialist will also be responsible for handling cases against the company arising from claims-related matters. This role is responsible for all aspects of coverage, litigation management, investigation, negotiation, and resolution within established Best Practices. 

 

Your WORK as a Litigation Specialist will make a difference as you:

  • Manage and direct activity and litigation strategy of assigned panel counsel in all aspects of investigation and settlement of assigned cases and perform as needed adjustment related activities necessary for litigation such as coverage determinations; interviewing insureds, witnesses, experts, and physicians as needed; inspecting property damage (as needed and as possible); reviewing factual information to evaluate injuries and damages; determining potential liability and the total value of claims; negotiating settlements and making recommendations regarding litigation.
  • Attend trials, depositions, and mediations with defense counsel as needed for our entire territory. 
  • Assign case to a third-party vendor, if applicable, for investigation of circumstances when compensability is questionable
  • Utilize independent judgment in decision-making and manages claims promptly and thoroughly from inception through closure.
  • Complete accurate Large Loss/Litigation reports to executive management and reinsurers with timely updates.
  • Monitor and adhere to periodic claim file diaries consistently create a written plan of action to facilitate ongoing claim management, quick resolution, and best possible outcome
  • Interact regularly with agents/brokers, insureds, Risk Management, and Underwriting Department
  • Participate in industry conferences and seminars and maintain state licenses and continuing education hours as required
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending Builders Mutual sponsored training classes                                     

 

Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:

  • 5+ years of commercial claims experience handling complex construction defect, general liability, and construction-related bodily injury litigated claims along with a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant insurance experience 
  • Adjusters License required for assigned jurisdictions requiring them 
  • High communication capability with excellent written, presentation, and verbal skills to influence and persuade others; ability to communicate and build relationships with departments and industry partners 
  • Excellent negotiation, organizational, creative problem-solving, and advanced technical claim handling skills, including the understanding of coverage and tort laws with the ability to analyze and interpret contracts and coverage forms
  • Ability to exercise judgment, make critical business decisions, high level of discipline along with adapting to rapidly changing environment  
  • Ability to travel up to 35% for mediations, trials, and other meetings
  • Proficient in the use and knowledge of MS Office software; knowledge of policy processing and imaging systems
  • Reside in or willing to relocate to Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina middle or eastern Tennessee, or northern Florida.
  • Pursuit of, or ability to pursue, AIC, ARM, or CPCU certification, working knowledge of a claims management system
