Cleary Gottlieb’s Litigation Paralegals provide efficient case management, document, and administrative support across a wide range of matters, including securities, M&A, sovereign litigation/arbitration, antitrust, bankruptcy, white-collar defense and investigations, intellectual property, and general commercial disputes, as well as pro bono cases. This role offers exposure to federal, state, governmental, and international agencies. Litigation Paralegals play a key role in supporting high-profile, impactful cases.
The Litigation Paralegal, based in Silicon Valley, and will support client and case work on complex, high-profile matters, working closely with partners, associates, and under the supervision of the Litigation Resources Manager. The ideal candidate will have experience in multi-party, complex litigation, strong project management and organizational skills, problem-solving expertise, and a professional demeanor. The role requires a personable, proactive individual who can effectively communicate with all personnel levels and deliver exceptional client service in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Additionally, the Litigation Paralegal will perform a variety of confidential tasks to support attorneys' productivity, drawing on comprehensive experience and a solid understanding of Firm policies and practices.
- Support attorneys with various matters, including but not limited to complex litigation, (general commercial disputes, intellectual property, M&A, securities and sovereign litigations), arbitration, antitrust, bankruptcy, white-collar defense and investigations, pro bono and advocacy matters.
- Support case management for litigation matters by coordinating task distribution, maintaining project timelines, organizing team workflows, and keeping attorneys informed on case progress.
- Assist with all aspects of pleadings preparation for filing and service, including but not limited to proofreading, cite-checking, bluebooking, and shepardizing documents.
- Collaborate with Discovery Group lawyers on all aspects of discovery and trial preparation including but not limited to coding documents; creating and maintaining document databases; creating and maintaining document logs; document production; deposition management and support; preparation of witness binders, trial exhibits, and trial notebooks; coordinating logistical support arrangements for hearings and trial; and providing on-site trial support.
- Assist attorneys with legal and factual research.
- Draft applications, petitions, forms, pleadings, correspondence, and discovery documents and responses, among other things.
- Perform timely and accurate maintenance of case files pursuant to Firm's document retention policy.
- Build sustainable relationships of trust through open and interactive communication.
- Perform additional tasks as needed, including Bay Area office support generally.
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three (3) years' paralegal experience with significant experience working on multi-party, complex litigation.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills as well as ability to produce independently with excellent results and accuracy in work product.
- Superior detail orientation, written and verbal communication, organization, problem-solving and time management skills.
- Well-versed understanding of The Bluebook and proficiency in applying its rules and standards of citation.
- Ability to handle pressure, long hours, prioritize effectively and manage multiple deadlines and adapt to changing priorities and interruptions.
- Flexibility to work extensive overtime and travel as needed.
- Ability to physically work in each of the Northern California offices (Silicon Valley and San Francisco), although Silicon Valley will be designated as the “home base office” for this role.
- Ability to handle confidential information and materials with care and discretion.
The estimated base salary for this position ranges from $110,000 to $115,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will be determined based on various job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, the scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, and performance. This is a non-exempt role, meaning it is eligible for overtime pay.
