Staff Attorney Location: Houston, TX, 77056 Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Attorney to join our legal team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have experience in legal writing, legal research, contract review, contract administration and contract drafting. The Staff Attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the organization, as well as representing the organization in legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on various legal issues
  • Draft and review contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
  • Coordinates implementation of Contract Management practices and procedures
  • Coordinates and monitors contracts as they progress through the approval and execution process
  • Coordinates with customers, state agencies and vendors regarding completion of contract questionnaires and information completion
  • Maintain all electronic and hard copy files
  • Maintain contract management system (CMS)
  • Load all historical and go forward contracts into CMS
  • Prepare contract summaries/meta metrics
  • Resolve day to day changes, or issues that may arise
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations that may affect the organization
  • Prepare periodic, and special reports, compile information and maintain the contracts database
  • Attend meetings to access progress on projects, and maintain detailed notes
  • Interpret/review terms and conditions of contracts, and make recommendations to mitigate risks
  • Provide status updates on changes to requests and communicate them in a timely manner
  • Monitor contract deadlines and conditions to ensure timelines are kept
  • All other duties and responsibilities as requested
Required Skills/Abilities/Experience:
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced and challenging environment with the ability to service multiple internal customers
  • Ability to work across different levels within an organization
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal and technical documents
  • Strong attention to detail to catch errors and potential issues in contracts to eliminate any risks
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines
  • Must be able to prioritize and respond accordingly
  • Currently have a notary license, or have the ability to obtain one
Skills and Qualifications:
  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Texas State Bar
  • 2+ years of experience in legal writing, legal research, contract review, and contract drafting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
