As a Legal Assistant 2, you will provide vital assistance to PennDOT Office of Chief Counsel regional attorneys regarding a wide-range of legal matters. You will be responsible for extracting, reviewing, analyzing, and processing pertinent information from files in order to prepare and draft confidential correspondence and legal documents for various courts and ensure that all procedural requirements are met. Legal documentation will be reviewed specifically for all driver license and motor vehicle suspension cases, real property matters, and civil service cases.
You will also proofread legal documents to ensure materials are grammatically correct and in proper legal form, as well as draft comprehensive settlement memoranda involving critically important information such as the date of condemnation, pre-approval amount, estimated just compensation amount, anticipated date of payment, and more. In addition, you will prepare letters to courts, attorneys, petitioners, and condemners; assist attorneys with scheduling needs; and generate monthly reports for assigned counties to maintain and mange caseloads. Your work will regularly involve handling sensitive and confidential matters consistent with attorney client privilege.Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week upon successful completion of the training period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Legal Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Four years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including one year of legal clerical support experience; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
